Welcome Back!!!

Kia Ora
And welcome to room 9.

Miss Roberts is my name and I am your child's teacher for 2018.
I hope we all have a great year together and if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Swimming
Our swimming days are Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Children need togs, a towel, spare undies and a plastic bag to put it all in. It is expected that all children participate in swimming.

Book Bags.
We started taking our book bags home last week. Please listen to your child read. The more the better. Diaries need to be signed and book bags, diaries and books are to be returned to school everyday. Look after your books as lost or damaged ones need to be replaced at a cost of $5.00 per book.

Newsletters.
Children bring home newsletters every Friday so check their bags if they don't give you one.

I will try to post something on here as often as I can so keep checking and see what we are up to.

Sound
We made telephones with string and styrofoam cups. We were looking at how sound travels and came to the conclusion that the sound waves or vibrations travel along the string to the cup. We also discovered that it works better if the string is taught and not loose. Here's some pictures of us trying them out in the library.

WELCOME BACK TO TERM 3
I hope you all had a great holiday with lots of reading, practising basic facts, some story writing and of course some well deserved rest.
This term we are learning about the wonders of sound. How sound is made, how we can hear sound and how we can make sounds.
We also have cross country coming up and the children have been training hard for that as well. Looking forward to seeing you all there on Friday the 11th of August.

Welcome Miss Dinkha to Room 9
We have been very fortunate to have the lovely Miss Dinkha in our class for the last two weeks. She is a student teacher and has been an awesome help to all of us. She has listened to us read, helped us with our maths and even took part in a play we did.
Sadly she will be going back to university on Friday the 23rd.
But we have our fingers crossed that she will be back in term 3.
Thank you Miss Dinkha we hope you have enjoyed being in our class as much as we have enjoyed having you.

We grew a sandwich

Last Friday we picked the veges from our garden and made delicious healthy sandwiches.
We had chicken luncheon, carrots, kale, radishes, capsicum and silverbeet in them.
Mrs Warrington helped us pick and wash the veges and Whaea Julianna helped us to
put the sandwiches together.
They were delicious!!!
Vegetables always taste so much better when you grow them yourself.
Here's some pictures of us making and enjoying our healthy sandwiches.

That's us enjoying our sandwiches
That's us again

How was it Jayden?

WELCOME BACK!!!!!

Kia ora, Malo e lelei. Talofa, Bula Vinaka,
Hello and welcome back to room 9. This is our first post for 2017 and we hope to bring you many more stories about us and what we've been up to at our awesome school Leabank!!!

Here's a few tips for helping your children get through the cold weather:
1. Please make sure they come to school with a sweatshirt and shoes. It's getting pretty cold now and lots of children come to school with no sweatshirt or shoes and end up very cold at school.
2. If your children are sick please keep them at home so they don't spread their germs and make all of us sick.
3. If your children are not sick then they need to come to school.
4. Rain and wind is no reason to stay home.
5. Make sure your child has enough healthy lunch. Some children eat all their lunch at 1st break and then are hungry the rest of the day. Give them some extra sandwiches. Not more packets of chips. We all know how much more we eat in the winter.
6. We will not be ordering juicies or fruit sticks from the lunch room until September. Those things are too cold to be eating now and most of the children are shivering and shaking while they are trying to eat them. They'd be better off with a popcorn.
7. Wear a beanie if it's particularly cold, I do.

Fizzing Lemonade Take two

We tried it again and this time success! The key was lots more flavour and lots more sugar because the last lot was so kawa. This time it was delicious. We even got bubbles just like coke.

Fizzing, Bubbling, Sherbet

We made sherbet as part of our topic today. It was very cool. The citric acid and bi-carbonate mix together with the saliva in our mouths to make a fizzy chemical reaction. We thought it was delicious, bubbly, fizzy, sour, soft, yummy and delicious. We took some photos of it fizzing in water and in our mouths. It's such a cool thing to make I'm going to make it at home.

Ready.......
Steady, Go!!!!

We tried to make fizzing lemonade and it was not good. Everyone said it had no taste. So we're going to try again next week. That's science for you though isn't it. Maybe it will work, maybe it won't. Adjust your ingredients or method and try again.

Shake, Shake, Shake

Our topic this term is kitchen chemistry so today we made butter. It was so easy. Just pour cream into a container or jar and shake, shake, shake it up until it turns into butter. Here's a few photos of us shaking it up and eating bread spread with our delicious creamy butter. Keep an eye out for our next post on fizzing lemonade. Yummy can't wait!!

Maths - Algebra

This term we have been learning about patterning in maths. We can make colour patterns, shape patterns and even patterns with our bodies. Here are an example of some of our patterns. We are pretty good.
Girl, girl, boy, boy, girl girl boy, boy.

Sitting, standing, sitting, standing.
Harlem has made a shape and colour pattern. Hexagon, diamond, trapezium, hexagon, diamond, trapezium. And then yellow, blue, red, yellow, blue, red.

Facing backwards, facing forwards, facing backwards, facing forwards.

Feed the Need

We are really enjoying having hot lunches from Feed The Need on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We have had delicious burritos, nachos, butter chicken, soups and stews. Here are some pictures of us enjoying our lunch.
Teki, Wiremu and Tyson enjoying beef stew.

A warm lunch is great on a cold miserable day.

Folau always enjoys his hot lunch.

We wish we could have hot lunches everyday mmmmm

Olympic Bake Sale!!!

Looking forward to the Olympic bake sale on Thursday. Don't forget to bring your money to get something delicious mmmmmm.
